Consider
a position as a camp counselor at Arizona's Friendly Pines
Camp. It will be a job and a summer like none you've ever
had- and like none you'll ever have.
We're
all familiar with the tedious and repetitious summer jobs
that are easy to get and just as easy to forget. Retail
shops at the mall. Fast food. Low-level office work. Unlike
any of these, a summer at camp will engage you physically,
psychologically, and spiritually.
Nestled
in the tall, cool pines of Prescott, Arizona, Friendly Pines
Camp shares its 67 years of camping experience with boys
and girls, ages 6-13. Campers choose from a list of over
30 activities that are not only fun, but are also designed
to encourage learning, promote independence, build self-esteem,
and stimulate creativity.
Our
workplace consists of 110 acres of pine forest in the heart
of some of the most beautiful land in America. And our product
is vastly more important than fried burgers, designer jeans,
or collated documents. We are purveyors of childhood magic!
Friendly
Pines is a short six mile drive from charming and historic
downtown Prescott, at one time the Territorial Capital of
Arizona. Prescott offers many great restaurants, shops and
historic sites to keep counselors busy on their days off.
Many enjoy relaxing on the Courthouse Square in the center
of our city.
Duration
/ Dates - Pre-Camp training begins May 23, 2009 and
your last day for the summer is July 30, 2009 totaling 10
weeks of employment.
Costs
/ Pay - The salary for the 10 week summer is $2300 for
first year counselors. The dates of employment are May 23
- July 30. There are three pay periods, the first two cover
about 20% of your total salary and the third covers the
balance. In addition to the salary, for those counselors
traveling from out of state, a travel stipend is added onto
your salary to help with any travel costs incurred in getting
to camp. Room & board for the summer is also provided.
More
Info - Camp is fun. Your job as a counselor is to help
make that fun happen. We, therefore, look for staff who
haven't lost that childlike wonder. (By the way, "childlike"
is quite different from "childish")
A sign
in our Dining Lodge reads, "It's not doing what you like,
but liking what you do." It's the rare individual that couldn't
like the work at camp. All of our counselors are either
the head or assistants in activities such as: * Riding *
Ropes Course & Rock Climbing * Tennis * Swimming * Nature
Study * Handcrafts * Archery & Riflery * Photography
